Poem with probability = 0.999717968879Commitments to remaining rich?
Despite all our pollution which
Puts profits above
The Earth that we love,
One percent is a dandy niche.
We suffer but Billionaires smile
Tax loopholes still protect their pile,
We palter and putter
Imprecations mutter,
Our need for change grows all the while!

to tune of TELEPHONE – abridged version
[Lady Gaga]
Hello, hello, baby, no no, I can’t hear a thing
Corn chips must be drowning out the sound when I sing
Wha-wha-what did you say, commercialism’s king
Sorry, I can’t hear you, I just hear the ka-ching
Just hear the ka-ching, just hear the ka-ching
Sorry, I can’t hear you, I just hear the ka-ching
Just a second, I can’t hear a word that you say
Everybody’s eating their free snack bag now, eh?
Hoping that the sound of all those chips won’t go away
If they keep on eating, maybe I’ll start to play
Start crunching, start crunching
Gaga’s not just songs anymore
I hear the beat as I walk through the stage door
Start munching, start munching
That’s what product placement is for
And I don’t care if you’re annoying the press corps
Hello, hello, baby, do you want a little treat
Sorry that our rules mean we can sell what you tweet
Wha-wha-what did you say, your tweet was incomplete
Sorry if the corn chips crunch too loud while they eat
Too loud while they eat
[press]
Stop crunching, stop crunching
We just can not think any more anymore
It hurts our heads as she walk through the stage door
Stop crunching, stop crunching
She’s not about music no more
And she adores the complaints from the press corps
[counterpoint]
Stop crunching, etc. [Start crunching, etc.]

Cut taxes is always the rage
It's never the minimum wage
Entitlement slashing
And right to vote bashing,
Plug loopholes are not on the page!

I prefer a widget to Mitch,
Widgets don't toady to the Rich,
So vapid, so vain,
Mitch runs once again,
What a glitch if the Voters don't switch!

Is the Living Wage such a threat?
It's better than a min wage yet,
The Oligarchs hate it,
The Kochies berate it,
For Workers a joy that's well met.

"Things" by Jorge Luis Borges (translated by Stephen Kessler)
My cane, my pocket change, this ring of keys,
The obedient lock, the belated notes that
The few days left to me will not find time
To read, the deck of cards, the tabletop,
A book and crushed in its pages the withered
Violet, monument to an afternoon
Undoubtedly unforgettable, now forgotten,
The mirror in the west where a red sunrise
Blazes its illusion. How many things,
Files, doorsills, atlases, wine glasses, nails,
Serve us like slaves who never say a word,
Blind and so mysteriously reserved.
They will endure beyond our vanishing;
And they will never know that we have gone.

I turned 66 in February and have only recently started
to realize my mortality. But my wife and I have been
blessed with seven terrific grandchildren who,
thankfully, live close by and whom we see frequently.
This, plus the fact that I am in my 41st year at a job
I love, makes life quite pleasant. We have traveled
abroad at least once or twice a year and continue to
do so. Over the years I have experienced just about
every aspect of life one can imagine--from war to
the joys of new life. Though I would prefer not to,
I would not feel it a tragedy at all if I died tonight.
My only regret would be the sadness my beloved
family would feel.

Marriage hunt horns sound;
Youth is wasted on the young.
For all socks, a shoe.
