Eric Asimov's column provides me an introduction
to wines I would never consider because of lack
of familiarity or access. He makes me consider
the the qualities of the wine that made it intriguing
or delicious enough to be included in his list. Whether
it is accessible is beside the point. It is for the same
reason that I read reviews about restaurants that
I could never visit but the writer provides me with
enough critical details that allow me to enjoy the
experience vicariously. And I also do not think that Eric
treats this as a "personal diary" much less a "personnel
diary". I don't believe he works for HR.
