Commute
Above the one train
The sunrise in the city
Out of the dark night

Island
Where is my mother
The Statute of Liberty
She's so beautiful

Island (times square)
The lights are so bright
Always at the Big Apple
It's a hard knock life

Commute
The B train is here
Out of the crowded people
Where's my metrocard

Always a stranger, never at home
A Yank in Great Britain. El Greco in Rome.
An elm in the desert, a tulip in stone
Always a stranger never at home.
Always a stranger with no place to rest
Asleep on the sidewalk, an overbooked guest
A worn suitcase sofa. A newspaper nest.
Always a stranger with no place to rest.
Always a stranger, a man out of time
A Turk in Armenia, French in Indochine
Never in step, either front or behind
Always a stranger who's run out of time.
Always a stranger, a face with no name
Machine-damaged mail, a stake but no claim
admonished to silence and cower in shame
Always a stranger, a face with no name
Always a stranger, alien at birth
with dreams drawn from every corner of earth
uncertain of value, discounted of worth
Always a stranger, alien at birth.
Always a stranger, never a friend
A thread but no needle and nothing to mend
Not reaching a finish but only the end
Always a stranger, never a friend.
Always a stranger, nowhere to belong
No voice for a lyric. No tune for a song.
No chance to be lucky nor right to be wrong
Always a stranger, nowhere to belong.

Your country 'tis of me,
Porky plutocracy,
Where cash is king.

What our Supremes have wrought,
Hail the loud "ka-ching!"

SINGING IN MY REIGN
BY
VLADIMIR PUTIN

I'm singing in my reign,
Just singing in my reign
What a glorious feeling
I'm happy again.
I'm laughing at the West
So weak, such a pest.
I'm out of my funk
Crimea? Slam dunk!

Let NATO give chase
We'll pick up the pace
I'll strengthen my reign
I've a smile on my face
All threats are in vain
I'll never refrain
Just singin'
Singin' in my reign.

It's very clear, "O" Care is here to stay
Not for a year but forever and a day
The radio and the telephone and the movies that we know
May just be passing fancies and in time may go

But oh, my dear, "O" Care is here to stay
Together we're going a long, long way
In time the Rockies may tumble, Gibraltar may crumble
They're only made of clay
But "O" Care is here to stay

In time the Rockies may tumble, Gibraltar may crumble
They're only made of clay
But "O" Care is here to stay

Loud signals and no sign of rope
As we slide down that slippery slope,
And the Wealthy Deniers
Pay outrageous Liars
To sabotage how we can cope.

The Public's confused, unaware,
And only when the cupboard's bare,
Will action be taken
Ere Earth is forsaken,
It's time for John Q to beware!!

Things would more simple mayhap
Just trying to close "the skills gap",
The "gap" is a myth
That's lacking in pith,
Time to give this story a wrap!

Repubs will continue this bluff
While profits the Oligarchs stuff,
The "skill lacking takers"
Say acolyte fakers,
It's time to cry "hold, boys, enough!"

Wasn't it Peggy Noonan's sound bite?
Or was that her thousand points of light?
Or the opening for the boomer generation,
our greatest historical blight?

(Fools strutting about the stage,
who thought themselves so sage,
and who never came of age.)

Christie, Christie loves red meat
He dishes it out with deceipt
Loud and brash, never discrete
The biggest bully on the Street

Christie, Christie, I'm on a car seat
Sticky and blue with September's heat
We know you feel so elite
You scream you shout and even bleat

Christie, Christie, loves to eat
He's wearing shorts and a soccer cleat
He says to Dems retreat, retreat
But his reward will be defeat

In a plot
most twisty,
and full of rot,
Bridget’s Tryst-y
Chris is misty
“He does not recall”
He will neither deny
nor confirm
as he does buy
off a law firm.
with taxpayer dollar
to avoid a collar.
Christie’s all too eager
to let others take his fall
on a budget not meager
after all
when it was handy.
he stole money meant for Sandy.
God help us all
if this louse
ends up in the White House.

The Ukraine is more Russia's bit,
Their neighbor not ours,
The European powers

"Jack Of All Trades"

I’ll mow your lawn, clean the leaves out’ your drain
I’ll mend your roof, to keep out the rain
I take the work that God provides
I’m a jack of all trades, honey we’ll be all right

I’ll hammer the nails, I’ll set the stone
I’ll harvest your crops, when they’re ripe and grown
I’ll pull that engine apart, and patch’er up ’til she’s running right
I’m a jack of all trades, we’ll be all right

The hurricane blows, brings the hard rain
When the blue sky breaks
It feels like the world’s gonna change
And we’ll start caring for each other
Like Jesus said that we might
I’m a jack of all trades, we’ll be all right

The banker man grows fat, working man grows thin
It’s all happened before and it’ll happen again
It’ll happen again, yeah they’ll bet your life
I’m a jack of all trades, darling we’ll be all right

Now sometimes tomorrow comes soaked in treasure and blood
We stood the drought, now we’ll stand the flood
There’s a new world coming, I can see the light
I’m a jack of all trades, we’ll be all right

So you use what you’ve got and you learn to make do
You take the old, you make it new
If I had me a gun, I’d find the bastards and shoot ’em on sight
I’m a jack of all trades, we’ll be all right
I’m a jack of all trades, we’ll be all right

The song written by Gordon Sumner and performed by Johnny Cash comes to mind...
I HUNG MY HEAD
Early one morning with time to kill
I borrowed Jebbs rifle and sat on the hill
I saw a lone rider crossing the plain
I drew a bead on him to practice my aim

My brothers rifle went off in my hand
A shot rang out across the land
The horse, he kept running, the rider was dead
I hung my head, I hung my head

I set off running to wake from the dream
My brothers rifle went into the sheen
I kept on running into the south lands
Thats where they found me my head in my hands

The Sheriff he asked me why had I run
And then it came to me just what I had done
And all for no reason just one piece of lead
I hung my head, I hung my head

Here in the court house the whole town was there
I see the judge high up in his chair
Explain to the court room what went through your mind
And well ask the jury what verdict they find

I felt the power of death over life
I orphaned his children, I widowed his wife
I begged their forgiveness, I wish I was dead
I hung my head, I hung my head
I hung my head, I hung my head

Early one morning with time to kill
I see the gallows up on a hill
And out in the distance a trick of the brain
I see a lone rider crossing the plain

And hed come to fetch me to see what theyd done
And well ride together to kingdom come
I prayed for Gods mercy for soon I'll be dead
I hung my head, I hung my head
I hung my head, I hung my head

The Road (Regrettably) Taken

With abject apologies to Robert Frost

I dreamed I took a road I seldom take.
To the right I drifted, far off course.
And when I discovered my mistake
I madly tried to hit the brake,
(But sadly, I was on a horse.)

I felt a creeping sense of fear
As I slowly realized my plight.
My little horse sure thought it queer,
But queer folk weren't welcome here,
And almost everyone was white.

The One Percent lived high on hills,
And in that clean and pleasant air
Lit cigars with hundred dollar bills,
And instead of solving social ills,
Complained about Obamacare.

When I awoke, I realized the truth:
Whichever road you take you should endeavor,
Whether you're in Dallas or Duluth,
When you find you're in a voting booth,
Make sure to always pull the proper lever.

One of the most damning sentences
in the whole article is this:
"Though primarily a pretrial center,
it houses some sentenced inmates."
The great majority of the people that are held at Rikers have not been convicted of any crime,
and cannot afford to post bail.
And we put them into this hellhole.
By doing so,
the poorest segment of our society
(and those that are mentally troubled)
have been deemed deserving
of potentially serious bodily harm
and punishment
-punishment without trial
-punishment before trial.
No bail, no judge, no jury, no conviction
and no real protection from themselves or others
- just arbitrary punishment.
Whatever else this is,
whoever is to blame,
this is not justice.
It is a mockery of justice.
And it goes on and on,
....in our name,
....with our knowledge,
....and with our silent consent.
For how long?

Just in fun, liberals of Hollywood issued a statement, in song of course.

Tune of Hooray for Hollywood

“Oy vey for Hollywood,
The righty-tighty part of Hollywood.
Where any folks who hold us in contempt
Can be tax-exempt
When they donate dough in this town
And any bigot
Can be a spigot
Of money to keep all us lib-rals down

Oy vey for Hollywood,
Now here it’s very clearly understood
Deductions there for Voight, Sinise or Grammer
Can freely hammer
Us folks they think are no good

Their five-oh-one-C-3
Buys G.O.P. some tea
Oy vey for Hollywood.”
:)
